painting a helmet doesnt weaken it....lol...most of your racers are wearing custom painted helmits....lol.....but there a few paints that are better than others....personally since inm in the paint business.....id use either HOUSE OF KOLOR or CREATEX AUTO AIR...and you can use any urathane clear coat, but the first thing is get the old decals off it if there are any. then get a sctoch brite pad to take the shine off it and your ready to start.......first prime it , then a base coat and go from there with your design from there the two paint systems above will send you a manual on the procedures on how to use their systems if you ask...both also have excellent websites, and the only way to damage the strength of the helmet is if you sand it way way down thru all the factory clear and paint.......ive been painting for about 9 years and never had any problems what so ever with a helmet doing its job after i painted it.....

Are you doing this for display or for racing? If it is for the latter, you cannot paint it!!! I have a helmet that was signed by various drivers at the Birmingham Super Prix and was told that because it had been signed, it could not be used as the integrity may have been damaged.

Basically, the helmets are airbrushed and decals then stuck on (although some do paint the adverts instead of decals). Try the below websites for some ideas. If you contact Gremlin designs, they may be able to help you (but am not sure if it is all trade secrets!)

NEVER paint a helmet.....buy a new one. The chemicals in paint can weaken the material used to make the helmet. Some cleaners can do this also.
