I think I had mine around 20 weeks. I think it depends on your doctor, insurance, and personal history. they should at least use a doppler to check the heartbeat.

it's usually a good idea to get an ultrasound in the 1st trimester (1st 12 weeks), especially if you are not so sure about your last menstrual period or are experiencing minimal bloody discharge (spotting).

ultrasound calculations of the expected date of delivery is usually most accurate during this period. also, other things the doctor would like to see at this time is whether the baby is in the right position (intrauterine instead of being ectopic), the regularity of the fetal heart activity, the position of the placenta, etc.

No very unlikely at the most they may put the heart monitor on you so you can hear the babies heartbeat. They didn't at my first visit it was all formalities but the 2nd one they did the heart monitor or dopler and we heard the heartbeat.
It was not until 17 weeks did we do the u/s. They are expensive and most insurances will only pay for one time use unless there is something abnormal then they will do more than one.

It's going to depend on your doctor, your insurance, and you medical history. Most likely if you do they'll do an internal because they can get a better look. So be ready for that. I was extremely high risk, we did the internal and then we didn't do another one until like the 4 month. We did a lot of the heart monitor though. Generally though that's something they schedule for you so your prepared. Good Luck.

You may, it depends on your doctors office and if they have the ultrasound machine in office. I received one at 8 weeks at the doctor but at my 20 and 30 week I had to go to an ultrasound specialist who have more powerful machines and are trained to specifically look for growth issues. So again, it depends.

Probably not.

I didn't get my first ultrasound until week 20, however, they may do one early with you if they think it necessary.

If you know about when you conceived and there doesn't seem to be any problems, I doubt they'll do one. They'll just listen to the heartbeat with a hand-held doppler.

Congratulations and have a great pregnancy.

Yes, you will get and ultrasound to measure the baby and listen to the heartbeat. If you haven't been to the doctors yet how do you know how far along you really are?

Probably not - most generally, you don't get an ultrasound until the latter part of your 2nd trimester - 1st part of your 3rd trimester.

If you are unsure of your last period - conception date, things like that, your OBGYN may perform an internal ultra-sound to find out a due date.

Most doctors like to do one at the first visit. They are making sure that the baby is indeed in the uterus instead of the Fallopian tubes. They will also confirm a heart beat.

You might. I did. They need to make sure that everything is okay and that the baby is developing where it's supposed to be developing... and not stuck in a tube or something. Ultrasounds are fun, though. You finally get to see that little person growing inside of you.
