oh no!!! Dan Fouts was good, Joe Montana was great, lets not even talk about the Superbowl rings and go into stats. But, first Joe montana was a natural born leader, who didnt feal pressure, while Fouts was skeptical at times. Now... Drum roll please... the stats:
Joe Montana:3,409 of 5,391 for 40,551 yards, 273 TDs and 139 INTs; 457 rushing attempts, 1,676 yards, 20 TDs
Dan Fouts:3,297 of 5,695 for 43,040 yards, 254 TDs and 242 INTs; 224 rushing attempts, 476 yards, 13 TDs
Fouts had more yards, but other than that, Montana beat him in every single category. Montana is clearly better.

I like Joe Montana at quarterback anytime, but he had a lot of talent that he was able to depend on and he made the most of it. But Dan Fouts, like Dan Marino, were traditional QB's that were "hindered" by their teams' offensive-minded coaching strategy. They were with teams that gave up too many points. If they were 49'ers, they may have done as well or better than Joe Montana.

Fouts was a great quarterback and about as "pure" as they come. But puttin him up against Montana could possibly dilute PUre to PU.

'Pure QB' it what respect? Fouts was a better passer, mostly definitely but that is only part of the game.

fouts was sick. ...define "pure" quarterback though. Montana was pretty darn good.

Just look at it this way: Montana has four rings and a state named after him! (I made that up) Montana is much, much better and more "pure".
