The main character is a guy-vamp... a wuss- still living with Mom and Dad, both vamps. He's supposed to find his soul mate and "turn" her, but every time she's re-born and he starts to get to know her, she gets killed some other way. Then he has to wait for her to be reborn...
Finally, in the 80's (fashion tells all!), he finds her, almost looses her, is able to turn her and lives happily ever after.
Somewhere in there, there's references to his inability to find her, to sun sensitivity, his not "growing up and leaving the nest", etc. His mom is one of those moms that always fusses over her "little boy"...
I saw it while I was babysitting at someone's house ages ago. It was on TV, and they never said the title of the movie.

I saw that!!! I can't remember the name though, but it made me think of Once bitten twice shy it was Jim Carrey's 1st movie. Good 80s vampire flick....
