Do you live in the midwest? Because that's what they all think. It's not possible for California to break off the mainland whole because of an earthquake. But if by some freak chance it did happen, then yes, it would be the new world superpower.

Doubtful. Too many illegal immigrants already live there, and they are pretty dependent on the US. I think it would stay a state or, if it was a country, would need US aid.
