A 'Pashmina' is the most popular kind of shawl that are favoured by many 'western' women. It comes in all colors and prints. If you notice, many women like to wear one solid colour like a hot pink or a lavender on a plain black top.

To wear it :
1) fold the shawl length wise (into a half), wear it around your neck

2)take the 2 parts of the free end and

3)put it in the other 'loop' end

4)then adjust it around your neck like a tie

There are shawls made from wool and silk blends, besides silk Pashminas and cashmer, which look very rich and are produced in the state of Kashmir and other parts of North India and Pakistan. They are bigger in breadth and basically you wrap your entire upper body in it, so for that you would have to use your hands.

China makes rayon blends, which have the appearance of a shawl no doubt, but definitely are not 'the real thing'.

silks and silk/ wool blends are great- they drape well. depending on size- lets assume a square30-36 inches. fold in half point to point to make a triangle- drape around shoulders and secure with a pin-- you can do the same around your hips. I rectangular shawl can be draped around shoulders then knotted behind back for a shrug look
