can someone logically evaluate why 42 was the answer?

Actually 42 denotes the ASCII character * (star) for old DOS and UNIX systems. The writer placed many such nerdy jokes throughout his writings.

The punch line is from a computers perspective * would denote everything.

Well, as we all should know.

7 is the perfect number, while three is the best number.

So, multiplying 7 times (3 or in this case, a variable of three,) 6
We arrive at the solotuion of 42.



Also, in Islamic beliefs, That is the number of Virgins that await you.


...unless your a Dane Cook fan, in which case it's 42 Virginians.

Because the question, in its un-******-up form (What do you get when you multiply six by seven?) takes the "good luck" rule of sevens one step further -- seven is considered to be a lucky number, as is fourteen (probably has something to do with 13 being unlucky) and twenty-one is a winning score in Blackjack. As with many things in life, we humans just needed to take it to the next level, and if we had five more minutes before the blasted Vogons demolished our planet for their stupid hyperspace bypass, we would have gotten there. ;-)
