He may really not have a higher education. Most professional footballers don't. They start playing very young and drop out of high school, don't go to college, etc.
Now, I honestly don't think he doesn't know what an Islamic terrorist is. I mean, everybody does, we hear that on TV almost every day, even in Europe.
I think he was being sarcastic towards the people who spread the rumor he had said that.

There is no way that any player at World Cup doesn't know what a terrorist is. No, it is not merely those of us in the US to hear the term a hundred times a day - the Europeans are much more knowledgeable about the threat of terriorism and what groups are inclined to act in that way because they live with it on a daily basis. We are the one's that were relatively naive until 9/11. Moreover, look at the amount of security that Germany had to implement for these games because of the possible threat. There is no way that these issues had not been discussed with the teams, coaches, agents, etc. - especially Italy who has been a part of the alliance in Iraq.

I personally think that is bull s**t. I mean he's like 33. What 33 year old living in the world today doesn't know what a terrorist is. I mean did he live in a cave for the first 32 years of his life, and just recently come out to play for the Italian national team?!?!? I don't think so. He knows what a terrorist is, as does every other adult in today's world.

Of course he's going to say everything no matter how stupid to deny the accusations of a racist/ religious comment. And of course he knows what an islamic terrorsit is, anyone who's been alive for the past decade living in any kind of hell hole would know. Seriously...

no, i don't think that he is that ignorant. see, the italian players have lied as well as dove and cheated. Grosso, after diving over Neill in the australia:italy game claimed that he "tried to avoid Neill" and that he was going all the way for goal, even when the whole world knows that he dove and that he could have easily jumped over him... I read it on yahoo7 a week ago.
