Hydrogen Cyanide smells of bitter almounds, not potassium cyanide. It will however release small quantities of hydrogen cyanide gas if exposed to moisture - giving off the well known bitter almonds smell.

It will also react with the acid in your stomich to form hydrogen cyanide and potassium chloride (if you swallow some). It's very poisones so don't try tasting it yourself! Apparently it has a metallic taste though.

Another story goes as follows:

The case is a tragedy, but a doctor says it solved a long unanswered question - what does the deadly poison cyanide taste like?

An Indian man who committed suicide left a hastily scrawled note describing the taste of the fatal toxin, the Hindustan Times newspaper reported on Saturday.

"Doctors, potassium cyanide. I have tasted it. It burns the tongue and tastes acrid," he wrote, according to the paper."

"Potassium cyanide or KCN is the potassium salt of hydrogen cyanide or hydrocyanic acid. It is a colorless crystalline compound, similar in appearance to sugar, and highly soluble in water. Highly toxic, KCN has a smell like bitter almonds, but not everyone can smell it. It is one of the few substances that form soluble compounds with gold, and thus is used in jewelry for chemical gilding and buffing. It can be used in gold mining to extract the metal from ores, although sodium cyanide is more commonly used. KCN was sometimes used as a rat poison until the 1970s." - wikipedia

Seriously--it is INSTANT DEATH.

Don't even come close to doing it. Nobody has ever tasted a cyanide compound and lived.
