I was in a baker's in London yesterday, hearing the man ahead of me saying to the shop assistant "Can I get a ham sandwich", whatever happened to "may I have".....he got what he wanted though.

I see. I never Got that but then I went to a posh school but it did not help me much. but I agree many people on here use apauling english but then often it is not their first language.

You mean 'have' instead of 'have got'? I am pretty keen on grammar but I wasn't told about that one. Sounds reasonable, though. How about gotten? Isn't that old English originally?

I know exactly what you mean. It used to bother me to see Pennsylvania automobile license plates with " You've got a friend in Pennsylvania".

I completely agree, the language of this country (England) is becoming worse. Also "never" is another annoying one, often used incorrectly.

The word "Got" is Okay but it is when the Amerians change it to "Gotten" that really annoys me. It is not english.
