how many people think that most people here dont actually take the time to research or have the life experience to back up what they are talking about-especially with the hard issues-immigration,the war in iraq, abortion etc???

Well ... so many of the things on here are not really questions that have real answers. I sometimes think this should be called "Opinions" instead of "Answers"

From what I've seen, which is a random sampling but certainly not everything, a small percentage of people have some idea what they're talking about, but most of the users don't have *any* idea. You see people on here saying, "no, I don't know the answer, thanks for the 2 points". Or people ranting illegibly; not only using poor spelling, but failing to even construct a coherent thought. Not to mention those who ask questions like "My cat was hit by a car, and she's bleeding. What do I do?", when the answer is clearly *take her to the vet, now!*

With all of those users out there, it stands to reason very few people have any idea what they're talking about, on any subject, let alone the hard issues.

I do try to only answer questions I believe I know the answer to, (or the occasional one that just *invites* a comeback), and it seems about half the answerers do *try*, but about half of *those* answers are either wrong or impossible to clearly understand. Do the math.

I know that I only answer questions that I do have experiece with. I can't answer questions about war and politics because these are things that I don't have experience with, only opinions. Hopefully people aren't giving answers that are false. We come here to get educated answers and not opinions.

I believe that alot of people talk just to hear their ears roar. Others just like to see their name in print. There are quite a few people who answer questions with genuine thought and knowledge behind them. Unfortunately they usually get lost in all the silliness and rhetoric on here, especially where political questions are concerned.

I think most people give off-the-cuff answers, but this is really a recreational thing, not always requiring a lot of research. Where Yahoo Answers comes in useful is when you want a lot of opinions so you can choose for yourself which you agree with.

my guess would be that the true social intellectuals out there in the world are not blogging on "yahoo answers" :) though, i do think that all the different opinions and answers from people on here do result in a good mix of opinions from society as a whole

To tell the truth, a lot of us are just goofing off at work.

But, just like when you ask a question to a group of friends, you are going to get good and bad advice. You have to learn to serrate the chaff from the grain. The best answers often have links to tell you where they found their information, if that helps. The worst answers are from people trying to get 2 points, like I am now.

No they don't.

I'd say 60% or so of the answers on here are BS people post for the hell of it.
