Bag-a Bug traps only a few of them, but not enough. Pesticides only work for less than a day, and Listerine mixed with water does not work at all! Help!

Absolutely *everything* you want (and don't want) to know about controlling them is on the site below, but be forewarned, this is not a simple solution. They come from an infestation that starts below the ground before you even see them, so you may need to get into this deeper than you think! Good luck.

It's a bad year for the beetles..... they are back stronger then ever. I bought a pesticide at Home depot made for just the japanese beetles- it's a power crystal stuff that you actually spread on the ground and as the tree grows- it some how takes it in and the bush no longer taste good for the beetles. You have to put in on every couple of weeks but it's safe and my rose trees are very happy now!

At this point all you can do is buy a insect spray and go around each day and kill them. Next spring put down a grub killer on your lawn and garden beds. Since beetles live under the ground and eat roots before they mature and come out of the ground as beetles. DO NOT use any beetle traps, they just attract more beetles.

Pray for drought. in any different case, there isn't any longer plenty you're able to do. specific, there are beetle traps, yet as a results of fact in basic terms a share of beetles ever fall into the seize, and the seize brings in loads of beetles, you're probable to have greater beetles around with the traps than without them. there are particularly some issues you are able to placed on your backyard to kill grubs interior the spring, yet they are many times high priced, and ineffective as a results of fact the grubs on your neibor's backyard with only come on your roses extremely (in different words, an entire neigborhood could could desire to try this to make it efficient). you additionally can kill them with Sevien, yet regrettably which will additionally kill each and every of the bugs that are good on your roses (alongside with lady bugs who munch on the aphids for you) and you're able to desire to maintain reapplying with each and every new wave of beetles. the only good way is to in fact hand-p.c.. them of the rose. All you're able to desire to do is get a pail of soapy water, place it under the beetle, and the two shake him off the rose into the pail, or only touch him (his organic defence is to drop to the floor... or subsequently, into your pail). The beetles would be unable to flee the soapy water and could drowd. BTW, I stated pray for drought as a results of fact they want moisture interior the spring on a similar time as they are grub. If there's a drought interior the spring, there will be a methods fewer beetles that summer season.

You will need to start managing for long term pest control. It's what farmers call IPM (Integrated Pest Managment.) This means that you will long term control so their are fewer pests. You may do things like plant lure plants (a plant they like more then the roses). This year, there is no magic bullet, but doing more in IPM can greatly reduce pests in subsiqunt years...
