The Renaissance was a period of history in which new explorations occurred in art. One of the major developments was the idea of 'perspective', the shadows in art to make it look more real. Renaissance art was characterized by three main ideas, humanism, individualism, and materialism. Humanism glorified the classics, an example would be Raphael's "School of Athens", individualism was glorification of the human body, Botticelli's "Primavera" (women in particular), as well as Michelangelo's "Holy Family". Materialism is shown throughout most renaissance art. It means the glorification of money over God. Also note the two different Renaissances, the Italian, and the North. The main difference was that the North was more religious, and had much more detail.
Good Luck, hope this helped.
