I personally consulted my family practitioner regarding the same issue. He first calculated what my daily calorie intake should be. He suggested that I first and foremost always make sure I'm eating 5 small but well rounded meals a day that total what I should be intaking daily. If you're like me and just "not hungry" sometimes, certain foods (celery with peanut butter) and vitamins (B vitamin complex) will actually help you naturally increase you appetite which will greatly assist in the next part.

Once you know what your average daily calorie intake is and you're eating that amount regularly, increase it in levels of 100 calories per week till you've added about 400 to 500 calories to what your intake was at the start. This should greatly help in putting on some weight slowly but naturally. Sounds easy but to actually do it regularly and by eating the right foods can be tricky.

Don't eat alot of junk food but make healthier selections that just have higher calories than what you might have normally chose. For example, say you're having plain cereal for breakfast. Add some calories by substituting the milk with a cup of yogurt and add 1/2 cup of sliced strawberries or blueberries to it. As a mid-day snack, eat wheat crackers with cheese, a 1/4 cup of cashews and a glass of orange juice. When you add these type of items to your diet, you're increasing the calorie intake but in a good way.

You can also investigate online. Check websites on marathon training. They usually have suggested menus on there as runners usually "beef up" for the big race.

As long as you're not putting yourself at a health risk and you consult a physician before making any major change like this to your diet and lifestyle, you should do fine!

Best of luck!

it is always important to remain healthy while gaining/loosing weight. Eat balanced meals, suppliment your protein intake if you're not eatting meat. Why are you trying to gain weight? If you've had an eatting disorder of any kind you need to seek a physician to help you make appropriate nutritional decisions. Your body can go into shock if you've been used to not eatting and then taking in large amounts of food. I would seek a doctor in either case.
