I find that funny in all my answers everyone says there is nothing wrong with putting creal in there bottle and there is only two people that think it is wrong. Do you two have kids? If he is eating that much he needs something a little heaviler.

Well, it depends on his size. If he is a bigger baby, 6-8 oz. is normal. Try adding a little more cereal 2-3 T per bottle (try to make the hole on the nipple a little bigger first) Or you could make sure the nipple size is correct so that he's not using a "stage 3" nipple instead of a "stage 1" nipple. Stage 1 is for newborns it makes it harder for them to suck, they go up as the baby gets older so drinking gets easier. Some babies like to feed more often than others. Or maybe you are feeding him too often, just to keep him satisfied. All babies are different. Good Luck.
JUST TO LET YOU KNOW ADDING CEREAL TO A BOTTLE IS NOT A NO-NO Some babies do need it.

I am confused as to exactly what your question is - but it caught my attention because I am a dietitian and if your 7 wk old son is taking 6-8 oz 12-14 times a day, you are way way way overfeeding your baby. He should be receiving approximately 30 oz. per day and you should really only be feeding him every 3-4 hours. And most importantly, you should NOT be putting cereal in his bottle. Firstly, cereal is not intended to be introduced to babies until they are at least 5 months old, secondly it is a choking hazard and thirdly putting any type of solid food into a babies bottle will make it 10x more difficult for you to transition the baby from drinking out of the bottle to eating from utensils.
Why are you trying to give him cereal? What exactly is the problem, why do you say in your question "it didn't do anything either" what were you expecting to happen? If anything you need to seriously cut back on the amount of formula you are giving your baby. I provided below a chart with general guidelines for feeding your infant through his first 12 months. I hope this helps.
Day 1 - 5 : 1-3 oz every 3-4 hrs
Weeks 2-3: 3-4oz every 3-4 hrs
1-3 months: 4-5oz every 4 hrs
4-6 months: 4-6oz every 4 hrs
7-9 months: 7-6oz 4 times a day with other food (rice cereal is typically introduced first and should not be introduced before the baby is at least 5 months old)
12 months: 7-8oz 3 times a day + cereal and baby food

i've seen other answers by the professional and i agree with you that he/she doesn't know what he/she is talking about. i had to do a thickening diet with my first son because the flap leading to his stomach was underdevloped and he couldn't keep anything down. my second son was hungry all the time so i had to do the thickening diet with him too. the thickening diet is where you add a little cereal to every bottle except maybe one or to everyday and i started when both of my boys were 3 months giving them a thinned bowl of cereal before bed. talk to your doctor to find out what would be the correct amount and how many bottles you should add it to. i even had to make the holes in the nipples larger because i had to put quite a bit of cereal in the bottles. also you might try giving him a pacifier. it might just be that he wants to suck. some babies need it more than others. try feeding him 4-6 ouces then take the bottle away and give him the pacifier. try feeding only every 2 hours. if you don't like the idea of the pacifier then just give it to him until he's 3 months then take it away. within 3 days or so he will have forgotten about it. i had to do that with my second son. it doesn't hurt to try, something will work. when my boys were babies their doctor told me that after the first month, because weight can actually drop in the first month, that about 2 pounds a month is a good average until about 6 months old then it kind of bounces around. i looked at the weight chart in the 'what to expect the first year' book and according to that your son is at about the 75th percentile. of course your doctor would have a more acurate chart, but this is a good guideline.

my son ate every four hours, and started sleeping through the night at 1 month. my daughter is 6 months and still eats every two hours round the clock and wont sleep through the night. i think all babies are different, and while ive heard that giving cereal in a bottle isnt recommended, in my mothers generation this was an everyday thing, and i dont see any messed up adults as a result. all you can do is keep at it, and wait til hes old enough to eat three feedings of cereal a day. (around 6 or 7 mos.) dont second guess yourself, youre the mom, and babies are made to be foolproof. for instance, they say now that you shouldnt give any cows milk to a baby under 1 year, yet in my mothers generation, alot of mother gave nothing but skim cows milk and vitamins, not even baby formula, and what do you know? theyre fine. good luck!

7 weeks old is much too young for cereal. Stick with formula or breast milk. Be thankful that your baby has a healthy appetite. This can change instantly and suddenly he'll become a picky eater and not want to drink or eat that much at all. As long as he'll eat, feed him. Don't worry about how much he's eating, etc. If you find that he's eating and not gaining weight, see your doctor. If you find that he has a hard time breathing, or he sweats a lot while he eats, or he gets a little blue in the face see your doctor immediately because it could be signs of an impending heart condition.
But if he's eating, he's happy, he's putting on weight and everything is fine, just enjoy this time with your baby because there will come a time where you're frustrated because he won't eat.
=)
Congratulations!

Althought the current thought is not to give food until 4-6 months, that really only works if your child is satisfied with the bottle until then. It is ridiculous to let him be hungry all day and every baby is different. My first child was born at almost 9 pounds and needed food by 2-3 months because he was taking over 40 ounces a day in formula. My daughter was born at 6 pounds and has just started food at 7 months. Every child is different-talk to the doctor about your concerns-it is your baby and you are the one that has to listen to him cry for food!

Does he cry for his bottle? Infants will suck a bottle by instince, so he will eat whenever you feed him. If he's not crying, just feed him every 2-3 hours. He's too young for cereal. And cereal in the bottle is a no-no.
If he is crying, there could be another reason besides hunger. Rule out gas pain and other causes of his crying before trying to feed him if it hasn't been long since his last feeding.
If nothing else, call your Pediatrician.

You could be mistakening hunger for something else. If he is crying try all other things first, diaper change, just being held, nuk, being played with, patted on the back and then give him the bottle. His weight gain is very quick. NEVER put cereal in a child's bottle. This does nothing but make them gain weight and he will not understand that he is actually eating too. It will stretch out his little tummy and make him hungier more frequently. Good luck with your little one.
