I would honestly like to know. Becasue outside of "God abhors homosexuals" I have never heard of a GOOD reason (and that's only a good reason to the very narrow minded).

Tradition? Is it longstanding tradition to get a quickie marriage in Vegas? Is it tradition to get divorced 5 times? These things are still legal.

Family upbringing? Are you saying gay people can't teach what's right and wrong as well as heterosexuals? Is a loving and committed homosexual couple less qualified to raise children than two people who hate each other and commit regular adultery?

Does anyone have a good answer?

I guess I forgot procreation as a potential reason. So you're saying that a sterile heterosexual person shouldn't get married either? Or a man and woman who just don't want to have children?

Here are answers I got from the same question:

Gays can't have children, therefore shouldn't get married.
*(My rebuttal was the same as yours....they replied as below)...

The sanctity of Marriage was created for a man and a woman.
Why change it for such a small percentage of the population?

Gay couples will raise gay children, and we don't want any more.

Children of gay couples will be teased in school.

Gay people will molest the children they adopt.

Children will be missing a role-model...either male or female.
How will they learn how to survive if they don't have both role-models?

Children of gay couples will grow up thinking being gay is OK.
______________

There were more answers, but too ridiculous to re-type....as if there could be more ridiculous answers than the ones above!

There is none. Though the anti gay marriage movement likes to say 'tradition' what they mean is 'religious tradition'. There is no practical reason to deny two men or two women the same legal benefits of a marriage contract. And as far as the whole 'child bearing' argument is concerned, does that mean that an impotent man or a barren woman should be denied a marriage license?

There probably isn't any good reasons other than religion. Man made reasons all have exceptions and flaws, like you mentioned with the tradition and family upbringing. You should get some interesting answers though.

Marriage is a religious thing..

it was taken over by the government to control benefits

such as .. giving tax breaks to married people (to stimulate marriage and population growth)

it is supported by governments because it creates a moral, viable society.
