It might not be a sin, but punching someone in the face isn't a sin either. Not all bad behavior is sinful, but I am pretty sure God frowns upon abuse of any living animal, be it human or otherwise. Not to sound cliche, but think WWJD: do you think Jesus would kick or beat a dog? Part of being a good Christian is having respect for life, abusing animals does not show respect for God's creations.

God grants us dominion over all of the animals on earth. This means we have a responsibility to care for them compassionately and humanely. Abuse is a sin. To kill an animal quickly for use as food is not a sin, neither is euthanasia.

Well, what do you mean by "abusing?" I was raised Christian, but don't know that I actually agree with Christiandom all the way, however, God did provide us with animals for a variety of reasons. Food, companionship, etc... It is VERY wrong to harm an animal out of pure malice and hatred, or just for fun. But hunting, fishing, etc. for food is not. I guess it depends on what you mean by "abuse."

NO! No! No! Animals are precious beings created by God. God created all of us as perfect beings, albeit your parents with imperfect souls. It is wrong and a sin to abuse any living creature. It is as wrong to abuse animals as it is to abuse children. Animals indeed have the same rights to peace and happiness as humans do. We should respect all animals as we do each other. The best advice...the Golden Rule: Treat others as you would like them to treat YOU! Also, people who abuse animals have often escalated into behaviors of abusing people and worse...Ted Bundy and other serial killers' first victims were the animals they have abused! If your parents get mad at you, they can e-mail ME on my 360 Yahoo page...I'll set them straight!!!

Of course it's a sin to hurt or harm animals. It's also against the law...and If the people who treat animals cruelly...How about if the role were reversed...and they were the ones being abused...Let them feel the same pain that would be afflicted to those poor innocent animals. It makes me hurt inside when I even think about it.

I normally don't talk about religion on public forums. But this is one matter where I can speak with some authority.

In the bible, there are verses about how a righteous man has regard for the life of his beast. Meaning he won't neglect or abuse them. However, that doesn't mean we can't eat meat: After all, he was the one that gave it to Adam and Eve, and provided flesh for the Israelites during their time in the desert after they left Egypt.
