Depends entirely on your definition of "good". Does good mean catchy? Popular? Successful? Emotional? Powerful? Burdened with a heavy message for the listeners to hear? Relatable? Are you trying to please others with your writing, or are you trying to please yourself? Please be more specific with your question. I may love songs that you hate and vice versa, so my outright opinions on "good songwriting" may be worthless to you unless I have a stricter definition of what you're looking for in a response.

You write a good song on paper with a pencil. Do not write your song on your instrument. You need learn your scales, chords, staff, key signatures, time signatures, and notation to "write" a good song, Those idiots who make music on their instruments aren't really talented. You can become a great musician if you study music theory. Don't try to look cool holding your guitar. Got to music school and play classical music. you will make ALOT more money and it will make you a disciplined smart person.

In other words your asking how to make a comercial music right???
Well...you have to find out what kind of music that exist in mainstream in your country or maybe you can predict what kind a music that will dominate in mainstream, and then you've got to make an easy listening music(that allready exist or will be exist in your country mainstream) and add a lyrics that match with music and its better if your lyrics touch in mostly people and not to touch a controversial theme!!!

Hi Guitar player,
Best advice I can offer is to find a good hook, it could be a great melody or a hot chord progression. The same would apply to lyrics, a hook that works and lyrics that are relevant!

relate it to ppl. really think about it and put your heart into it. and it wont come to you all at once. some parts just come to you randomly (so its best to have a pen w/ you always). It took me like 3 weeks to write my best song yet. Good luck!

You've got the WORST taste in music and would have the WORST taste in entertainment if you liked talentless reality shows! Listen to good music like ICP!
