Check out the clubs that may interest you and you can certainly make friends there. Also just showing yourself to be friendly will get friends for you. When you go into the lunchroom kinda check out the students and approach a table where there is a vacant seat and sit down and introduce yourself.
In some cases, you are the one that has to "break the ice".

My son did the same thing when he entered into the 8th grade. I would recommend that you get involved in a couple of clubs or better yet, some of the sports. He joined a couple of sports and this helped getting to know some of the kids and there was something to do so he didn't have to just sit around being the new kid. It looks like you really won't have any trouble since you are already asking the right questions and seem to be pretty out going. But, above all, smile and be yourself. Have a good time!

During the summer make friends with people your age in your neighborhood; these people will most likely go to your school next year. This way you'll have friends when school starts, hopefully.
When school starts, participate in some after-school activities, join a club or sport or something. This is great for you academically, socially, can be great exercise to stay in shape, give you life experience, etc..
Do not give in to peer-pressure. Stay away from those that may cause trouble. Choose your friends wisely.
Hope you enjoy your 9th grade year and years beyond. God bless.

I went to a private school in NJ 7th and 8th grade. I then moved down to SC where I started high school not knwoing anybody. I'm normally shy, but I talked to a kid in my parenthood class, met his girlfriend, and soon was intorduced to so many people. I am now very well known in my school and will be going to 10th grade. My advice is to just be friendly, smile, listen to what others talk about and maybe join in the conversation, and be smart. I found out that a lot of my friends now started talking to me because they thought that I was very smart and that I could help them in some classes. Last but not least, be yourself, and find a friend to go to football and basketball games with. I met my first boyfriend in this school at a football game. Good Luck! Peace out!

Join a sports team. I go to private school as well, however I went to public school for a while too and, in my school at least, people were not very involved with extra-curricular unless it was sports, the newspaper, or yearbook. so try those out and you'll probably be able to meet people much easier and you'll actually feel a part of the school, being involved in things that matter. It really all depends on two things: what kind of public school it is (meaning how involved it is with its students and how many programs can they offer you) and what your most worried about in transferring.

I suggest joining something, a club, sports, or music. When I was going into 9th grade at my school, I joined colorguard, which worked with the band a lot too. Over half the school was in band, so before school even started, I had made a lot of friends over the summer during practices. Get active in school, it should make it easier.

You've got a heavy load for your first year in high school...but what you need to do is take everything day by day and don't try to do much to over stress yourself. Being a freshman in high school is never easy, but just take everyday little by little and you should be fine...good luck!

Be friendly, but cautious. Join some clubs like a foreign language club or drama, maybe a sport if you are interested. the more involved you are, the more likely you are to find people with similar interests and values.

best of luck with everything, It can be a very daunting time.
I would say just be yourself, that is what people will prefer, dont be shy to ask for assistance, and try to get to know at least 1 or 2 popular people at the start, that always helps.
