I know there are liberals and conservatives in every state. However, in some places, the liberal or conservative way of thinking when it comes to politics is more prevalent. Also, in places that are more liberal, more so-called "progressive" thought is emphasized in education, and "alternative lifestyles" are more tolerated. Conservative states are (I believe) more accepting of other people's backgrounds and cultures than liberal states, but relationships with family and friends are more common and appreciated, and good morals are more often taught by parents rather than those lame character education programs.
Most liberal: California, New Jersey, Maryland, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont
Most conservative: Texas, Utah, Oklahoma, Wyoming, Mississippi, Alabama
I live in Kentucky: Culturally, we're conservative, but about 75% of our state's House of Representatives, as well as most of our mayors and county judges are liberal democrats. Odd, isn't it?

cpt_the_manr: Thank you for proving a GREAT point I agree with conservative bloggers, talk show hosts, politicians, political analysts, authors, and journalists on: The utter arrogance and ignorance of liberals. Are you not the one that's closed-minded for condemning the South for its supposed flaws, while only uplifting the north for its supposed high points?
I can tell you, many KKK members live in the north, and northern cities are far more racially segregated than Southern cities today. The South is just as, if not more, open-minded than the north, and yet it's still friendly.
