what's the point? either make the commitment and get engaged or don't. It's just an unnecessary step.
I guess it depends how old you are but all my friends just went straight to being engaged. I don't think many people do that anymore.

I say screw the promise ring...reminds me of something you do in highschool...I say just date seriously until your ready to get engaged...then spend your money on a ring...Promises are sometimes broken..but then again so are engagements..

Yes,Thats what my husband did.He said it was a promise for a bigger one and it was.I got my actual engagement ring a year after my promise ring.

well yea. i would guess so cuz me and my bf are going to do that this year. it just says u will be together through high school forever and then get married. so yea. and before u get married u can just get the engagement rings. just as easy as that.

Yes, I've seen many people do that, especially the younger couples. It'll also give extra time for both parties to think about the committment that lies ahead, and whether or not they are truly ready for it.
