seems like you have a problem if it cranking that means that there is suficent current flowing but might have a bad altenator but when a ford doest stard it usually leads up to a couple of issues the ignition control module located under the distributor or the pickup coil located in the dist. good luck

A lot of times new batteries have been on the shelf for a long time and could not be up to full charge. And you may have an alternator problem as well because you said the battery light came which indicates that the system is not charging.I would suggest putting a battery charger on it for a while if you have one. You have to start with the basics first. Also check the starter solenoid connections for signs of corrosion or loose terminals. Beyond that you may have to take it to a shop and have someone check it for you. Good luck.

You must first determine if the problem is electrical or fuel related. Do this with a can of starter fluid. Have a friend turn the key and spray the fluid into the throttle opening. If the truck starts then we are talking fuel system. If not then electrical.

Good Luck

we need more information..everything/anything you can provide us with will be more helpfull to yourself. firstly, you need 3 things to have a running engine: spark, air, and fuel. you need to see if you're getting a spark, make sure fuel is getting through, and make sure air is not being restricted.
checking the spark...can be doen in many ways: pull #1 spark plug. place it in it's wire. place sparkplug/wire on intake (away from fuel lines) so that the plug is very close (*but not touching*) the intake (about 1/8 inch). have friend either try to start or observe spark plug. if electricity is seen arcing from plug to block..then you have spark.
checking fuel..remove fuel line closest to your TBI/carburator. try to start engine. if fuel comes out of the line, then you have fuel. if you a fuel injection..that is more difficult to discern. remove fuel line before and/or after fuel filter (under truck, driver's side i think). turn key to "acc" position. if equipped with electronic fuel pump, fuel should start pouring out. if not, and you DO have an electronic fuel pump...maybe it's the pump, or the pump is not receiving electricity to operate it.
checking air...simply make sure that the TBI has nothing blocking air and air filtration systems.

all else fails...this vehicle is new enough to be able to be checked by a "code scanner". get your truck to a mechanic that has one and maybe this will tell you the exact problem. you may be getting air, gas, and spark...but something other than these may be causing your problem.
like i said..we need more info.

i had this same pickup and did the same things as you, it ended up being the timing chain.even though it showed it was in time, it would just sit and crank and crank. hope this saves you a lot of time and aggrevation that i went through.
