The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.

I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* Starting an Online Business For Dummies, 4th Edition by Greg Holden
* How to Start and Maintain A Successful Online Business by Kelly Thornton
* The Complete E-Commerce Book: Design, Build, and Maintain a Successful Web-Based Business by Janice Reynolds

There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

First, you should take a personal assessment of yourself: What are you interested in? What do you think would sell online?

Then take a look at your setup: Do you have a well-maintained computer with broadband access? Does your ISP have business accounts with faster pipes?

Also check your local laws- while most internet businesses do not create a lot of 'real time' traffic, will any ordinances prevent you from running a business from your home, accepting deliveries frequently, or similar things?

Then go and pick up some of the home based business magazines. They are often full of ideas for web based business.

There are plenty of jobs that utilize folks working from home on the internet. A friend of mine makes a pretty good living as a medical transcriptionist.

Hope this helps get you going.

Starting an Internet Business is like starting any other business, Gloria.

You need to have a Product or Service that you can Market profitably.

Now, the very first thing you'll need to know is how to build your own web site first, before you even think of going and Marketing it; don't you agree?

What I'd advise is that you start by learning this first from the free online tutorials at the w3 consortium sponsored site for which I've given you the link below.

The w3 Consortium, incidentally, owns the www that you see in all urls. They have made this site to help wannaba web designers with free tutorials and very low cost Certification Programs which will have you being ASP and .NET Certified for as little as under 50 $[USD].

There are many options that you can opt for depending on your aptitudes and attitudes, Gloria; and this may well be the most economical one for you.

All the very best.

Cheers.
