Recently I asked the question of where did we come from & I got some interesting & typical answers, well everyone who says God & the Bible. Just curious has it ever crossed your mind that the Bible may just be a book a story a novel written to tell of what one person may have created in his/her mind? I have Faith that something of a greater power is out there but food for thought. Tell me what you think.

It has elements of fact woven within the fiction around it. Consider that the Bible was originally Hebrew and Aramiac. Now add Latin, Greek and a host of translators and certain Monarchies who wanted a certain slant or two and VOILA! the current Bible. Now, it does not take a genius to figure that during all this translating and political posturing, that somewhere along the way the "truth" may have been co-opted. People who beleive the Bible is absolute fact are sadly misguided not because they believe, but because they are so certainly. Blind faith, no matter the cause is always dangerous.

The most important fact regarding authenticity of the Bible if you read it in English is that is a translation of a translation.

The King James Bible was specifically slanted by King James' translator's/scribes to reflect the views of the times and the morals he felt were important.

Even if you read it in its original language it is still the work of humans interpreting what they saw or heard about.

Most of the New Testament wasn't written as eye witness accounts. It was written, in some cases, hundred of years later.

I am not sure what authenticity we have for the Old Testament.

I don't think it is a novel. But I also don't think any one book should be read for all one's guidance.

I think anyone who reads one book, from whatever religion, is short changing themselves.

I believe sprituality has to eventually be about people not God.
Because without people God wouldn't exist (unless dogs are gonna start going to Church).

Maybe the ultimate great power is when all people of the world have understanding.

First off, each section of the bible was written by a different man (except John wrote like two or three)

Each of the stories that occurred in the bible actually happened in Biblical times.

So really, even if you don't believe in God, the Bible is a history book, and while some people claim that God is not real. They cannot deny the existance, nor the reality of the bible

The bible is mythology. In fact, it's not even original mythology. Much of both the Old and New Testaments was 'borrowed' from earlier writings. Prior to the invention of the OT, Jews worshipped numerous gods, of which 'Jehovah' (the deity known as "God" today) was only one. Jehovah was the rain/storm god, very important to a desert people and very powerful with all that lightning and thunder. Judaism was a designer religion created to organize and discipline that group of people into an army "chosen" by Jehovah to be superior to all its enemies. Taught strict obedience like all good soldiers, with 'God's' encouragement and blessings, they warred with other armies and seized land, property, possessions, even women.

The basis of the bible is war. The essence of the bible has changed many times throughout its history, but at the bottom of it is still a foundation of "divine" tyranny, created by man.

I grew up christian and now I'm not. I accept the bible some as fact and some as fiction. It was written by man, many men. All or some inspired by the holy spirit but men added and took away to make it fit their needs. There were more books and there are a lot of contradictions.
Growing up I asked a lot of questions and that made people in my church uncomfortable. I don't care what you believe as long as you have faith in something and know why you believe it.
Jesus was a good man, a wise teacher, but he is not my savior. I seek the advice of many teachers, in many books, of many faiths. I treat all of them as I do the Holy Bible a guide (fact or fiction) to knowing the divine, and to live my life.

The bible is a story of God and Jesus as perceived and written by man. Ergo, it is already semi-fiction since no one who sees and writes about something can do so objectively especially over such an event as Jesus' deeds. I believe in MY God which really is of modern times and disregards the bible in most cases. I just can't consider it real enough and it tends to be a bit contradictory at times. Bulvine Scathology is the term I usually use but hey, that's just me. You keep your faith the way you feel comfortable and don't change it for anyone but yourself. Good question!!

I am a born and raised Roman Catholic and I think the Bible is part fact and part fiction. The original version of the Bible must have been very simple and yet, very powerful. The people who eventually wrote the King James version of the Bible were the ultimate storytellers and while many of the verses may indeed be true, they may have also been exaggerated in order to 'seduce' many people into converting.

I have thought about this a lot, and I've come to the conclusion that I do not think it is inspired by "God." (I say "God" but I believe that it is impossible to know what the greater power is.) Because it was written by men (no women, of course, psht) who SAID they were inspired by "God" to write it. "God" didn't say he inspired them to write it. Some parts are so vague, it is impossible to tell. It is basically telling all about morals and how people should live and give an explanation for things we can't explain, and is written in a very mind-capturing way to make us have a firm belief in what we've never seen or has been proven.

The Bible has stood the test of time and has proved itself to be valid. Go read about the prophecies in the Bible and how EVERY SINGLE ONE..was fullfilled. The Bible does not need to proven or disproven by man because the Bible proves itself

Also the Bible is Broken into 66 books, and not one of them contridict the others, most of these people had different backgrounds, different lifestyles and they all wrote about the exact same things and it all fell into place and not once do they contridict eachother.

What a cool person you are. I think it's great that you are looking for the answers about life. My answer to your question is that I've experienced a friendship with Jesus so I will never be able to deny the reality of Jesus and who the bible says that he is. I've experienced his unconditional love for me when I felt like I had nothing in this world to live for. I've had him provide money for our family to eat and pay bills when my husband was on strike for 3.5 months. As a child, I was healed of asthma. My son also experienced a miracle when he was 13. If God hadn't healed him his life would've been seriously changed forever. (Wish I could go into this one but it's a private sort of subject) I grew up in the church but I didn't truly give my life to him until I was 43. That was when everything changed. I'll never turn back to the way I lived before. I've gained everything!
