Blues music inspired rock. Jazz became America's music. But rap? I'm black so I don't think I can be accused of being racist. I'd like to see real talent again.

A lot of black music was not immediately appreciated. Jazz, blues, soul, and funk were all feared and looked down on. Even R&B was called "devil music" and hated by a lot of people at the time. I'm not a big fan either, but you have to admit rap has been very influential in other non-rap kinds of music. Time will tell.

that is very true and nowadays, black people *no offense*, say that rock is white people music, when in fact it was pretty much invented by black people, they were the pioneers of it. I mean dont get me wrong i like some rap when it has substance to it like a message or something. but now its all the same nothing really different. whatever happen to that good stuff eh??

I agree. Rap is straight up crap.
I applaud the jazz and blues musicians. They have a done a lot for music. But rap? They have done nothing to make music succeed.

although i am white, i know that rap and hip-hop were born at 60's in the poor neighboorhoods of black people in america.that's the reason why they sound strange to you.you don't understand the anger and the way of living of these people.don't forget that there are a lot of different kinds of music unless you don't like rap and don't forget that new talents exist in every kind of music.

You are not racist, but certainly stupid.

Check out the following Hip-Hop artists whose music certainly can not be classified as "just rap."

Talib Kweli
Dead Prez
Guru - the Jazzmatazz albums
Common

African American culture = poppy hip-hop rap versus sophisticated soulful R&B. African Americans still have some of the best musical talents, but their realm is R&B.

Caucasian American culture = poppy boy/girl bands versus sophisticated, acoustic....poppy boy/girl bands. Sigh...

I agree 100 % I can understand most rap but nowadays you can't listen to it because no one knows how to do it without profanity as far as the music aspect of it the hard beats and rhythm are quite good......some of my favorite singing groups are The Mills Brothers boy could they do a cappella singing....wow!!!!
