Well, over the centuries, millions have died, and one thing that has certainly continued is the question of whether or not there is an afterlife.
And life goes on for the living.

I do believe that something continues after death. The human body has a spirit or soul if you prefer. The body is just a container to house the spirit in while it is on this earth. It really doesn't matter if it is Christianity or Hinduism or any religious sect. The fact is that "a soul" exists. It is in the human body and is capture on earth until that body dies. Once the body dies the "soul" is release into a different plane of existence. That other plane of existence is the anything you speak of after death.
The answer is yes, anything does continue after death.

Yes, I definitely believe there is life after death - not just nothing. I was remarking to my son last night as we were driving, on the full moon we were looking at. It was HUGE and BRIGHT. I said to him that I just can't believe that we all came from an amoeba or just by accident here to earth. There are too many things in life that are not by accident. But, you may ask, then why are we here? I think God wants us to have faith in him, including in an afterlife ( I believe in an afterlife that is fair). Faith is a test. If we knew everything, there would be no need to have faith. And, this life was not meant to be fair. That is so true. There are so many people who die all around the world in so many different awful ways. Or, whose lives were terrible, then they died. There are so many people who died without knowing God. There are so many different situations. I believe we are all children of God, and he has a plan for each of us. Not only in this life, but in the next. I know we just need to do the best we can to what's right in this life according to what we know. I also believe in a pre-existence (a life before earth), where people developed talents and gifts and personalities and spiritual attributes before we came here. We lived with God at this time. Have you ever noticed how 2 children can be from the same family and be so different (my two boys are so different! Same parents and everything!)?
I am Mormon (LDS). I know you don't want to be converted. I just thought you might want to know. I hope I have given you hope.

It really depends on your philosophy of LIFE. This question is as old as humanity itself, and if you are looking for an answer you will never find it. At least while your alive, and unfortunatly, the odds of being able to tell the living are pretty slim. So, I would say that you have to do some reading, research and investigation to find a response that feels good to you. Jesus has really nothing to do with this question, for even satanist's believe in an afterlife, so for the sake of exploring some alternatives I prefer to stick with some of the more positive views.
Hindu beliefs tend to support reincarnation while some of the more conservative christian views support a heaven and hell. many of the modernist views support a 4th diminsion of sorts where you are "judged" and sent to a level that you require to improve your spirituality.
Carl Sagan has some really interesting views on this subject, as well as Carlos Castenada, you should consider reading some of their books.
One interesting thought is the thousands of years of history we have in the supernatural, or paranormal pheonomena that have clearly documented that seems to support another level or plane of exsistance. Some, like the Catholic's call it pergatory or limbo. The premise being that the person, while alive failed to complete their task on earth set in motion thru a pre-ordained destiny. I suppose that is possible, for I have had some very unexplainable events in my life resulting from close friends/family deaths.
Ultimately, it really boils down to your view of LIFE with or without some form of belief in a God. If you don't believe in God, then it would be impossible to believe in a soul or spirit, for that is the very essence that precludes a "heaven, or hell" concept. If you believe in God, then you must have a balance of faith that at death, the soul or spirit moves on. To where, or what is the view of LIFE that will encompass you personally.
Personally, when I view the world that we LIVE in and the complexity of it all; the bees pollenate the flowers, they grow into food we eat, to the compost we use to fertilize the soil to grow the crops that feed the cows, that provide our steaks, that give us milk, that the children need to grow so that the human race continues, that we move to the hills to provide the lumber, that builds our homes, and fuels our compassion that grows on collective conscienciousness I can't help but to believe in a continuance of life beyond the physical plane. What it is, I have no idea, but I know that I will one day find out when death comes for me. Until such time I don't consider it too much, for it is not an answer I will ever have in this level of exsistance. So, rather than tie myself down to these mysteries, I would much rather involve myself in LIFE and hold tight to the faith that I have in God..And that after death we sleep until such time as God calls for us to raise up. If this is wrong, it won't matter, I am decaying to dust anyway. If this is right however, I would much rather be a part of the perfection of my faith and my God, showering in the light of the sun. Wouldn't you?
Even people who are not interested in being "converted" will attest that something happen after death. Again, this has no bearing on Jesus or religion in general, but a faith that there is more to our exsistance than this one life...

There isn't a easy way to keep Jesus out of that question, kid, but i'll try.
When you die, you get judged, then you either go to heaven, or you go to the outer darkess(aka hell) where you get a chance to repent and get to heaven. If you dodn't take that chance, you stay in the outer darkness.

Love continues in one way or another. It could be a memory, hearing a favorite song or just a life insurance policy.

I believe in reincarnation. I don't believe you can be reincarnated by anything other than a human. You don't get to be a dog or cockroach. You have to keep going till you get it it right.
Heaven and Hell do not exist.
