I lower down the radio when Im concentrating or when I get in a stressful situation on the road...I tend to listen to the radio on a high volume so when the stress levels rise I must lower the volume so I can concentrate.

Yes I don't know why I do this. I used to drive an 18 wheeler and any time I would get close to the place I was going to deliver or pickup I would turn down the radio. I still do this in my car. Don't know why?

a_sexualasianangel, le0_girl: Your hearing has nothing to do with your sight. Your ability to pay attention to things is percieved to increase, however, with less of a prominent distraction.
If I'm trying to find somewhere that I haven't been before, I will, sometimes, turn the music down. If I've got accurate driving instructions in front of me, I either won't or will turn it down only a little. If I allow myself to believe that I'm focusing less attention on the music, then I'll usually be able to spot things better. It's psychological.

Turn it off..........I am terrible at directions and I don't need the distraction of the radio! I've lived in this town for more years than I want to admit and I STILL get lost.....and it's a small town! That's really bad!

LOL I so turn down the volume and if I start to get really stressed about it, I'll shut it off. I'm bad with directions so any distraction cannot be there.

Yeah, and there's a term for it... I forget what it's called. It has to do with your senses being saturated which hinders your ability to respond to stimuli.
