I don't walk on squares, and I really don't know why... cracks either. I will even jump from my carpet in the livingroom to a rug I have in the kitchen to avoid the tile squares.

I am 13 and my parents say i am a bit of a rebel. I find my self stepping on cracks intentionally because everyone in my family is way too superstitious.

When I was a kid, I avoided them because it was said to be bad luck to step on them. As I got older it became a habit even though I was no longer superstitious. Now I think I do it because I can be anal-retentive.

I did sometimes, when I was kid, more as a game than because I believed the old rhyme "Step on a crack, you'll break your mother's back. Step on a line, you'll break your mother's spine."

As an adult I've put away childish games. Hadn't thought of it for years. Thanks for the memory.

...step on a crack..break your mother's back...step on a line...break your father's spine... I do not avoid either since it is a silly children's rhyme with bearing on reality.
