magic johnson is HIV positive, it is the preclude to the autoimmune disease called AIDS(Aquired ImmunoDeficiency Syndrome)...
On November 7, 1991 Magic Johnson shocked the nation, announcing that he was HIV-positive and after twelve years with the Lakers would retire immediately from the game of basketball. Despite having retired and not playing a single game of the 1991-92 regular season, he returned to play his final All-Star game after being voted to the team in 1992. Johnson and the West routed the East team 153-113, and Johnson's 25 points and 9 assists earned him his second All-Star MVP award. Johnson would continue his playing career further, going on to play for the 1992 Olympic Dream Team. Playing alongside fellow superstars such as Larry Bird and Michael Jordan, the Dream Team is considered to be one of the greatest collections of sports talent to play competitively; the team went undefeated, handily beating back its international competition and winning the Olympic Gold Medal. Following the summer Olympics, Johnson announced he would return to the NBA for the 1992-93 season and began practicing with the team, even playing during the 1992 preseason, but citing personal reasons he opted out before the season's start and headed back to retirement.

MAGIC JOHNSON at least give the guy some respect and spell the name right,, and KJA 63 do you know him personally and have tallied and tracked all the times he had intercourse so thourghly that you can say hes had sex with (mininamally considering you said "thousands") a 1000 women. I seriously doubt that but thank you for your inside information. Now maybe if you said Dennis Rodman I would be less skeptical but a 1000 different partners? Come on. You cant bag on the guy, he went public with his disease and raised awareness for it. I'd like to see what you would do after you have sex with "thousands" of men and then contract the virus. Im sure they wouldnt have a press conference for you.

Earvin "Magic" Johnson Jr. faced the toughest hurdle of his life when he ushered his pregnant wife into their den and announced that he was HIV positive.
Fourteen years later, the former Los Angeles Lakers point guard is a spokesman for HIV and AIDS education, and living proof that a positive HIV diagnosis does not mean a death sentence.
"If you take your medicine you can live for a long time," Johnson said yesterday.
Johnson made his comments during a talk before a crowd of about 400 people at Alden Baptist Church yesterday. Pharmaceuticals manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline sponsored the free event, which was part of a national education and awareness campaign that Johnson began in 2002.
In a discussion that was deeply personal and comical at times, Johnson took the audience on the roller coaster ride that has been his experience as a person living with HIV.
"My world had been going great, then this devastating news came to me," Johnson said.
While his wife and child escaped infection, Johnson said he was "upset, disappointed and frustrated" in the early days of his diagnosis. He said he eventually decided to take his doctor's advice and adopt a positive attitude and stay diligent about taking his medication, a prescription of 15 pills three times a day.
"My head was messed up," he said, holding a microphone and walking up and down the aisles of Alden Baptist Church.
Today, Johnson takes two of the 26 pills routinely used to treat the HIV virus and is quick to dispel rumors that he takes medicine that is unavailable to the public or that he is cured of HIV.
"The virus is laying asleep in my body," he said.
Wearing a black sweat suit with gold trim, Johnson looked as hearty and healthy yesterday as he did during the 1980s when he led the Lakers to five NBA championships.
"HIV is out here in a big way in our community and its spreading, so it's our responsibility to tell young people what is happening," Johnson told the mostly adult audience.
He urged young people to abstain from sex and advised regular HIV testing for everyone.
In Springfield, a city that ranks fourth highest in HIV and AIDS cases in the state, close to 1,000 residents are living with the diseases, according to the statistics provided by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. Nationally, Latinas represent the fastest growing group of people living with HIV and AIDS, according to the Latino Commission on AIDS.
Following his presentation yesterday, Johnson fielded questions from the audience. Alethia Daughtry of Springfield asked the basketball legend if he would have left the game if his diagnosis had come in 2005 instead of 1991.
"If I knew then what I know now, I'd still be shooting those sky hooks," Johnson said to rousing applause.
In 2002, Johnson was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Magic Johnson is suffering from AIDS but due to his ability to buy extremely expensive medicine, he is able to live pretty healthily.
