I figure if even a few people respond, I'm bound to learn something.

To have to be willing to think critically about everything. Don't take anything at face value because nothing is as it seems and nothing is completely certain. Critical thinking allows you to question things, evaluate them, and come to your own conclusions regarding those things. When you go through life thinking critically, you sharpen your reasoning skills and learn how to be more wise. That is what I think is the most important lesson in life! Question everything, no matter what it is or how much we think we understand it or believe in it. Everything should be up for scrutiny.

First off, I'm still learning . So, I can't say if this is the MOST important thing.

The thing that I've learnt till now is that Life is not going to be something that you'll find after you get promoted or win the lottery or finish a book. Those goals , big or small, are just a part of Life. Every moment , every thought is Life itself. And we should be living every moment as if it was our last.

Grasp it, hold it , nurture it , kiss it and treat it with the dignity it deserves. Don't waste this moment. Be good and kind and polite. No,not because they might be useful some day. But because that's how you're supposed to be. ( Remember ? )

Live every day like it was your last. Squeeze it for all it's worth. Two words, mate. Carpe Diem.

The most important thing that I have learned is that we are here on this Earth to go through many many diverse experiences through which our spiritual development and refinement occurs. Every single experience, no matter how pleasant or unpleasant it may be, is a blessing in disguise . We just have to keep our eyes open and look for that gift.

When people analyze my life, they tend to say,"Poor thing, she has gone through so much of suffering". But I see things differently. Thankfully I am now able to see the gift first and suffering second in every experience.

I've learned that if I want to earn someone's respect and understanding, I have to prove myself to them -- not by showing off or bending to what I think they should see in me, but by being my true self, and being confident and self-assured in my true self.

A person has two images of themselves, from my perspective -- one that they show at home with family, and one that they show away from home to friends. To find your true self, I would assume that this would be a combination of these two images -- but with a greater emphasis on the image you reveal at home, for this is the image that your parents helped shape the most, the one you had before you became influenced by negative aspects of society. But again, I did say that the true self is a combination of your two images, so of course the image you show to friends does have its value as well.

That the most important things in life cannot be forced to happen, but can be forced not to happen. So one must remain open to love and beauty.

i understand you pick only one, yet i think those 2 are virtually equivalent as they impacted me: (a million) deal with others as you want to be treated (AKA the Golden Rule). - This facilitates me circumvent being a hypocrite. (2) existence journey is the most ideal instructor. - purely listening to the Golden Rule did not do a lot; the utilising in touch is what impacted me maximum.

That experience is the worst teacher. It gives the exam first, then the lesson.
