I got a phone call from a Spanish-speaking telemarketer once, and thought it was my best friend playing a joke on me. I laughed at her and the call ended. Then I realized it wasn't my friend, but was still curious about who would call me & talk in Spanish like that. So I hit *69 before realizing that it was one of those auto-dial recorded telemarketers. Of course, the *69 message told me that it could not complete my call because the caller had hung up & its line was "busy" (computers will do that lol). So "*69" informed me that it would keep redialing the # & notify me when the caller's line was available.
BIG MISTAKE! The phone kept ringing every few minutes with a "special ring" - not from the Spanish telemarketer, but from *69 calling me back to tell me the "line's busy." I ended up having to turn the damn ringer off to make the calls stop!

NO! I HATE when people do that. If it is important, the person will call back! Haven't people heard of human error in dialing a wrong number? Ugh.

I always call back and say "Hi my name is Morgan and I had your number as a missed call on my cellphone..."
That usually solves the mystery!
Good Luck

Yes, It maybe from some of the colleges I showed interested in(they call people to ask them if they are still interested and such.)
And other times it might be someone asking you to be a reference for a friend of yours or something.

No. If it's important, they'll call back.
Phone conversations that start, "Did you call me? Who is this?" are dumb. What are you afraid you're going to miss?

Yes! I am FAR to curious to just let it go. Sometimes it's someone I know, one time it was a telemarketer who was so embarrassed I called him back that he forgot his pitch!
