It is never too late to change your viewpoint. I'm open-minded - show me why I should believe and I'll do it readily. I've heard of near-death experiences - if I ever have one and it shows me that I should change, why not?

i have studied near death extensively. i will put down in the resources some of the materials i read and studied. now in order to understand the nature of the other world you have to understand your beliefs. a belief is a concept that was accepted by your mind on more then one occasion. the stronger the belief the more times it was thought about and accepted. the other world is entirely thought driven. so in essence what will happen on the other side is you will go to a place that fits your personal beliefs. this is why so many religions are strong today enough people have had near death experiences that support thier personal beliefs. islam people will die and see ismeal and muhamed. hebrews die and see abraham moses and soloman. christians die and see jesus. etc. the athiest problem happens too. they can go to the other side and see absolutely nothing barring the idea that they were still aware it was there in the first place which should disprove that they cease to exsist. the ones that die and see some other religion actually have that religion as a deep seated belief they are not aware of. this is often a case of someone growing up in one belief system then changing to another. in order to get a better grasp of this also study those that have had non death related visions (today we scientifically call them lucid dreams or out of body experiences) so i will also put in resources that you can do your own research into the other side phenominon
hope this helps

The person who knows God exists but choses not to worship God, also believes that Satan exists and choses to worship him.
I don't care who it is but when you have a near death experience you will have an awakening that you could not imagine. It is easy to say now that you would not believe in God when you are near death but when it comes down to it and they feel HIS love thru the white light their heart will be healed.
I have always been a believer and have worshipped GOD. When my father died, I became angry with God to the point that I would scream at him for taking my father from me. One thing that I did not realize was that God took my father when he was suffering from cancer. He did not take my father from me to be spiteful, He took HIM to end his suffering. Actually, I was almost to the point of feeling hate toward God. Two years later, I had a car accident. HE showed me HIS LOVE by saving my life & the life of the others in the car. No matter how angry I was at HIM, HE saved my life. Seeing the white light will change you even if you don't worship HIM.

That's simply because we humans are born into a world where we are brainwashed from childhood to believe in a god of some sort. So, we are so much conditioned to thinking as if we are being controlled by god. When we are faced with death as atheists, we cannot help using a defence mechanism, because we are such weak creatures and fear predominates us.

Threats, threats. My, but you Christians and Muslims love threats. Especially hellfire. That one gets you off, doesn't it? C'mon, be honest. How many of you were touching yourselves?
Sorry to be so ugly, but the appeal to force is an ugly argument. It disfigures the faces of Jesus and Muhammad alike. Did anything they said really justify threatening Hell, not for evil deeds, but just for guessing wrong? Whether to believe, in which sub-sub schism of which sect? If so, could they possibly have been speaking for a merciful God?
In truth, I don't think making this threat is primarily motivated by sadism, although one detects a little relish in the tones in which it is uttered. I think the main driving force is the same fear that it generates, and round and round it goes for thousands of years. Anyone who believes in Hell as a punishment for "unbelievers" must secretly be terrified that they haven't guessed right, that, as in that "South Park" cartoon, they may one day find themselves in a crowd of new-arrivals facing a demon underling who will be explaining, in bored tones, "For those of you who are wondering why you are here, the correct answer was Mormon, the Mormon religion..."

When people die and meet their maker, the ones that refused to believe that God exists here on earth, will believe then. Unfortunately it will be too late for them to believe. Their actions on earth and their beliefs will seal their fate. But I am not judging them. The ultimate judge is God. Christians sometimes cross judgement on other people. This is wrong. God knows the hearts and minds of all of us. He knows who will be in Heaven and who will be in Hell. He will decide who goes where...not us.

Atheists will not believe in something that they feel is untrue, now if they have an experience like your friends than they would feel that it is truth. besides if there were no atheists in the world, u wouldn't have anything to laugh about when u come across a grave marker that reads "here lies an atheist, all dressed up and no where to go". one of my friends came across that...

Usually do when it comes down to it.
Suddenly they believe when they have nothing else to lose.
I have heard a LOT of Atheists thank God when a near accident happens but no one was hurt.
