if you trust your daughter and know that she will be responsible with one, why not buy her an iPod Shuffle. it is the smallest version of an iPod ($100-$125). there are 2 different versions. the cheapest one holds about 125 songs, the other one holds about 200+. i have the one that holds 125 songs, and it is perfect. there is no screen to see the song that is playing. you can skip songs and play back songs (forward and rewind button) that is all. i think the Shuffle would be the perfect starter iPod for a young child.

Personally, I don't think they're very suitable for a 7 year old. They work by simply plugging them into the computer and using the iTunes software to upload music. For a 7 year old I would suggest the suffle. It doesn't have a screen but it just plays the songs in random order and has control buttons like play, stop, pause, or next song. It starts at $69. I think the nano would get broken or something with a 7 year old and the video iPod is a little too advanced. The cost of songs is 99 cents no matter how long they are. Hope that helped.

I do think that, yes, iPods are expensive and easy to break. If you really do want to get her one, why not get her an iPod shuffle? They are pretty cheap compared to other kinds- in the 90 dollar range. They are less likely to get scratched up and are small. When you purchase an iPod, it includes a disc to install iTunes, to buy songs. You also can import songs from CDs to your library, if you'd like. Songs from iTunes cost 99 cents. Let me know if you need help with anything!! Hope this helped!!

amazing that a 7 year old these days wants an ipod...i agree with everyone else, it cost a lot of money and you may want to wait until you are in fact sure she will take good care of it...maybe find a cheap mp3 player first and see how she does with that. I know toys-r-us usually sells some.

Just plug the I pod into the computer in the USB slot, and drag the music you want into the i pod. But make sure you EJECT (drag the ipod to the trash, or right click on the mouse and select eject) the ipod when you doing adding songs!

personally i don't think that something as delicate as an iPod should be put in the hands of a 7 year old. i would suggest that you wait till she is older and ready for the responsibility.

Maybe wait a year or two, mom. Is she responsible? Kids do break things, and iPods aren't cheap.
