I think that it is a wonderful name and for the reason you want to give it to her is great! One day when she is old enough and you sit down and explain to her why you named her what you did she will be happy to be apart of that "promise" you and your husband made to one another and to your child. What a wonderful way to name her. And she is your child so don't worry about what everyone else thinks. There are alot worse names out there. Good Luck!!

Meaning Of The Name Promise

I agree with sevenn. I am a teacher and I have seen a lot of different names. I think that kids today are used to that and don't really make fun of kids' names all that much anymore (at least at the high school level).

If you're worried about the name you can give her a name that means promise (like sevenn said) or give her a more traditional middle name that she can use instead if she doesn't like her first name. For that matter, you can give her a more traditional first name and make her middle name promise.

A good site to check out for ideas is www.babynames.com.

I agree with "znrsmommy" That is a wonderful name. So many people just name their kids popular names. But to have a name with real meaning, that's great. She will cherish her name when she is older. and don't worry about the things some people say.... its your baby. Last time I checked we can name our children anything we want, its are right. So go ahead and name her Promise. I'm wondering what will be her middle name,,, if she will have one. I think it would be a beautiful name... good luck.

Mommy of two... one boy and one girl --6 and 4

I think that names have power. Like if give a child the same name as someone that you know is a hoe, they could be turn out to be one too. With that said, yes I think Promise is a cute name, but the only Promise that I know is schizophrenic, so I would never name my child that.

Good luck in deciding!

I agree with these others. Try to pick a name that is cute and meaningful but also that the child can live their whole lives with. I think promise is a bit much but I have heard worse. Maybe you could make it her middle name? Hope has a similar meaning also.

i'm sorry that's incredibly corny.. look up a name in a baby name book and see what name means promise, but to actually give her the name promise, you are just begging for her to get a black eye in school

not in my opinion. Try give a name that will LAST..a classic name like Mary or Elizabeth. Fads come and go.
Just look at how many ambers are walking around!
