MSN Messenger uses either your MSN email address or your Hotmail email address as your username. If you don't have one you will have to sign up for one of those to use MSN messenger.

You can sign up for the email by using MSN Messenger's "Get A New Account" link (bottom right of the login screen) or by going to http://www.msn.com or http://www.hotmail.com

I've been using MSN messenger since I found the internet in 1999. Windows messenger I believe (never used that one) is used from a windows website so you dont have to have the MSN messenger installed on the sytem your on. Such as libraries, etc. The actual messenger can be used from your desktop computer or any computer your on that is internet capable. All you need to do when your on whatever computer (if the program is installed), is put in your ID and password and YOUR messenger will come up with your contacts on it. I have never used the messenger for chat rooms but I have heard that it is a pay service. All of my contacts are people I have met over the years in chat rooms though. Contact me through Yahoo Answers and maybe we can work something out and get you going.
