Because reality is such a foreign concept for them.

They are so entrenched in their fantasies that they believe the lies even when the truth slaps them upside the face.

That's why, despite all of the terrorist attacks during the 90's and the failed diplomacy, they still believe that we need to play nice with the terrorists and try to negotiate with them. They fail to understand that the terrorists want to see us dead along with our way of life.

As a Canadian leftist I am quite far to the left of those you call liberals in the US. Yet, I find that amongst most leftists the various conspiracy theories about 9/11 are viewed rather dubiously. Sure, they are believed by some, considered possible by others but most think it is a little too far out there to accept as truth.

Having said that, let me add that many secrets can be preserved. The media, especially the American media, have been lapdogs since 9/11, challenging almost nothing that the Bush administration does or says. Although this has started to change in recent months, it is still a very tame media. If Richard Nixon had enjoyed the press coverage George W. has had, he would never have resigned as president. I know for a fact that during the Reagan years the impact of a hurricane on Nicaragua (a country Reagan was funding violent insurgents, i.e. terrorists, in) was completely kept from North American media. There were no reports on it at all, but I saw the devastation myself.

It is difficult in today's world to know for sure what the facts are. Sure, we all saw the planes hit the towers. But who made them fly into the towers? Was it the 19 Arab passengers? Was it someone else? Could it have been done by remote control? Who did those 19 Arabs (assuming their guilt) work for? Was it Al Queda? Was it bin Laden? What about the close connections between the Bush and bin Laden families, what does that suggest? Weren't the events of 9/11 a convenient excuse for implementing the controversial Bush Doctrine of first strike, something America had never embraced in its history?

Sure, there is a lot of wild speculation in these questions. Most of them could possibly be answered by the accepted, official version of events. But they might not be. The fact that Bush and company have lied about so many things (WMDs, the Iraq connection to 9/11, uranium purchases in Africa) makes it hard to take them at their word on anything.

The conspiracy questions continue to surface because the administration has no credibility.

The truth is no one will no for sure what happen in that time but it could go either way. If the government investigates its self then you will find that they did almost everything possible to stop 9/11 from happening. If you have a non partisan investigation not held by party member of the government then you might find that they did almost nothing to stop 9/11 from happening. No one will ever no for sure but I would not take the word of our government as Gospel. There is more then meets the eye on this one and if you do you own investigating on the fact you might be surprise at what you can dig up. Try looking up Foot Options for the air lines that were high jacked on 9/11. And one last thing, never put anything past anyone.

Hey Driver you know the answer before you ask. Conspiracy theory is a form of recreation. Toying with ideas about world control is no different than shooting some hoops. Just because you hit a couple free throws it does not make you a NBA pro.

Let's see.... I remember Howard Dean (former Democratic Presidential Candidate and current chair of the DNC) floating 9/11 conspiracy theories right after it happened until he was muzzled by his party.

What I don't see is any "mainstream" Democrat refuting these claims. Seems it sits pretty well with them.

Most of us don't and what does the NYT have to do with 9/11 conspiracies?

You ask one question and then talk about something completely different.

I'm afraid the paranoids are in the Republican Party. Please refer me to any official Democratic or recognized mainstream liberal site that embraces a conspiracy theory about 9/11.
