There are several on the market, but all I can testify to is Mederma. It's slow (as they probably all are), but it does work. There is a house brand of Mederma that I buy at CVS that works just as well. Other drug stores probably also have their own house brand. It's about 1/2 the price, and, if you read the ingredients, it is the exact same product.

This is a good tip for all over-the-counter drug purchases. Read the ingredients. On 90% of the products, the house brand is the exact same thing. The only time there's a noticeable difference is on flavored drugs like NyQuil. Often the house flavor is not nearly as good.

My friend had this weird lotion thing from Taiwan called 'scar so soft'. I know, how weird. But it worked pretty amazingly. I think it's because it has some traditional chinese herbal medicine in it. There's another product called [don't laugh!] 'Pimpless' which is French [although my friend got it from hong kong] that has chinese herbs and it works wonders on pimple/acne scars AND burn marks etc.

I don't think i've been much help..but...uh... good luck anyway [?].

That's true. No ointment can remove year old scars. Only laser at this point.

i have had surgery twice that left ugly scars-my doctor recommended MADERMA-and it has smoothed, and faded my scars. I used it also on old battle wound scars, two to three times a day, for approx six months, and it helped them to fade as well. I recommend it.
