How long has China been a communist state?

China has around 5000/6000 years of history. Does anybody know how many of those years they have used communism as their economic system?

The Communist Party of China (CPC) has led the People's Republic of China under a one-party system since the country's establishment in 1949.

Chinese communists took over the country in 1949, but they were active revolutionary movements for 20- 30 years before then. In fact, the Communist Party of China no longer subscribes to traditional communist principles. Toward the end of the 1970s China began to open up its system to private incentives and the global market, leading to a new form of capitalism in China (most of our household goods are made there). Today all that is left of Communism in China is the label.

The Communist Party took control in 1949 on mainland China. The Republic of China government fled to Taiwan where it still resides to this day. China has however, been a dictatorship for all but a brief period in the early 20th century. For the peasants, not much probably changed except some of them went missing when the communists purged the "bourgeoisie" of people opposed to Maoist ideology.

There is a saying that the People's Republic of China is a triple misnomer:

The government does not represent the People,
The government is not a Republic,
and the claim to China is under dispute by the legal but displaced government on Taiwan.

They're not Communist, anymore. You'd have to be a moron to call what they have true Communism. They're more of a dictatorship then anything else. Same as North Korea. The only true Communist country on Earth is Cuba, and that's all going to Hell after Fidel Castro dies.
