As per her recent interview she expressed killing HP at the end of 7th book. Having become a billionaire with the patronage of HP fans, can she break their hearts just like that?

Well, so she says, but maybe it turns out to be just a way to make the readers wait more anxiously for the seventh book. I hope so.
I really don't think it would be fair for Rowling to do something like that. First of all, he is like the main character and I really don't think she has a right to kill him (author or not). I mean, even little children read Harry Potter and imagine their deception when he dies. It just wouldn't be fair to all the fans...

As far as I know that is all rumor. She has implied that there will be a couple of people that will not make it but has not mentioned any names. If you have links to this "interview" you claim please link them.

From what she has said the ending has been written for a long long time... it was actually written before the first book was begun and has sat safely locked away ever since, virtually unchanged. From that we can only assume that how it will end has nothing to do with how successful it has been.

She can do anything she wants. She invented him. She can decide when and if he will die. An author should never make such decisions based on the "hearts" of her readers. If she feels she must protect the character from future misuse, she is entitled to do so, but it must be as a logical and honest development of the whole story. I think Rowling can manage that easily, if that's what she decides to do.

Jo understands the desire to kill of a main character She did explain that she understood an author's desire to kill off the main character of a successful series.

"I've never been tempted to kill him (Harry) off before the end of book seven, because I always planned seven books and that's where I want to go. "I can completely understand, however, the mentality of an author who thinks 'Well, I'm going to kill them off because that means there can be no non-author-written sequels ... so it will end with me, and after I'm dead and gone they won't be able to bring back the character'."

Some fans have interpreted this to mean she has killed off Harry. Read her words carefully. She did not even hint she killed him off.

Part of me thinks that it is just a plot to build up excitement about the 7th book. She says there won't be anymore after this, but Sly claimed there would never be another Rocky, too. He wanted to kill Rocky in 5 just so it couldn't happen.

I don't really know why it would really matter if she it did. In my opinion, it would make a good end to the series, considering she won't make more than seven, so its not like the series would go on after him. Besides, she might be faking us out, she's done it before. She has every right to do as she pleases with the series, I just hope some jerks don't ruin it like they did the last one.

I think it would be selfish to do something like that if the ONLY reason she killed him off was for that. I would be less mad if it was really integral to the story itself. But she's such a clever writer I probably wouldn't know the difference would I?

jk can do whatever she wishes with Harry - it's her creation.

Harry isn't a real person, though I know many would be heartbroken if he is killed - I can only hope that jk would be amenable to bringing Harry back if she does - it would be very hard for many children to handle. I hope she re-thinks that idea.

1.) Who cares.
2.) There is magic involved, so he would just magically come back to life anyway.
