if u have xp just restore to an earlier time when u had them
start>all programs>accessories>syatem tools >system restore

It happened to me, and it was a mess but this my help please try and just follow instructions, do not mess whit any thing else unless you understand exactly what you are doing. OK Need a link I right be back. OK download this open it with your task manager, alt, ctrl, del, press all at the same time and go to new task , and find it, try your doc or downloads

once you installed open your program look for system repair and reboot. Get the free download. Make sure your system is XP

On your desktop, right click and select "Arrange Icons By" then choose the "Show Desktop Icons". This should work. Good luck!

Chances are that Explorer is not running properly. Try rebooting into Safe Mode to see if this brings up explorer. If so, use the shutdown and restart to see if you an then get going. Soemtimes it just need to be kicked into action.

if this happened while you were using it, and not just when th system starts up, you can hold the windows key and press 'r' to bring up the run window. in the run window type 'explorer'.
or
you could also get the run window up using task manager, under the 'File' menu, new task.
