I fly frequently and went to my Dr. for advice. I use Afrin nasal spray 1 hour before departure. It is a decongestant and helps reduce the fluid in your ears as well so that they dont build that horrible pessure.

Chew some gum, or put in ear plugs before take off and landing helps.

Not sure if there's something you can do before to prevent it, but it you chew gum while taking off & landing it will help stop your ears from popping.

I figured out what works on the plane. I found squeezing my nostrils to my face and blowing uncorks the ears and saves the day. The whole gum-chewing thing works for me

Chewing gum prevents your ears from popping.

there's a product called "Earplanes" that works for me, fits just like an ear-plug, has some kind of special "thingy" that helps with the pressure...

yawn it helps a little or swallow ur salavia lots of times quickly, prevents from ear popping
