Two ways:

1) Shrinking the size of the image
2) Changing image format (to like JPEG)

Are you using JPG? They're as compressed almost as much as you can compress them. If you have a choice with taking the pictures - go for the lowest whatever - the highest takes up the most room, and the lowest is not really that bad. Unless you're a perfectionest, go for the lowest. My old Easy Share has Best, Better and Good. Go for Good. Least bytes, least space.

I assume your photos are from a digital camera. then you can either reduce size (pixels) or increase compression. There is good software on the net to shrink a number of photos altogether. Just go to download.com or any other place and search for free programs with keywords like batch image resize or so. I don't know if I'm allowed to recommend one here, so I'm not gonna.

For later, though, you don't need to take your photos 7 Megapixels just because your camera can...

You can also adjust the size of the picture in your designer, there should be a properties section for the picture you added, just alter them there. Then when saved it will save it with the same dimensions.

I don't mean to baby this down, but make sure they are either a GIF, JPG, or PNG. If they are not, simply open them in paint and resave as one of the above.
And shrinking the size will help to.

Use Adobe Photoshop and resize and resample the image, and save it as a JPEG, it should drastically reduce its file size without affecting the quality.

you can try compressing you to gif format, but jpeg shouldnt take up too much either

shrink them before you put them on your website.take them into paint and stretch/skew the % down.
