I think it depends on what kinds of foundation it is. If you're applying liquid, then the best thing to use is a sponge. I wouldn't recommend using your fingers if you're prone to acne because your fingers could contaminate your face. If you have no problem with acne, then i think it's fine to use your fingers. Be sure to change your sponge every few weeks or make sure that your fingers are always clean. Cleanliness is every important.
If your foundation is powder, as there are many on the market these days, its better to use a brush. Be sure to keep it clean, every few weeks wash it with shampoo and towel dry it, then let it completely air dry.

Hands down a Foundation Brush! If you use your fingers, you are just depositing the oils and dirt from your fingers onto you face. A sponge is o.k. but it soaks up a lot of makeup. If you want your makeup to look flawlass and smooth, try the foundation brush.....but get a good one from a makeup counter in the mall. Cheap ones will fall apart!

The sponge is good for big area blending, like cheeks, forehead. the downside with the sponge is that it absorbs more foundation and it's one-time use only.
A lot of people prefer finger, but make sure you wash your hand clean.
Brush is good for small area touchup after finger/sponge blending. It is more useful to me for concealer rather than foundation.
But doesn't matter which way you choose, the most important thing is to use the way your face likes.

I find that powder foundation goes on better with a brush, because it goes on more evenly. Of course, if you're using a liquid foundation you want to use a sponge.

Your finger is best, sponges absorbs the make up too quickly and you're wasting make up that way. Your fingers don't absorb and you can spread the foundation alot better that way. The fingers are even good when blending your eye makeup together.

The coverage with brush is less than sponge and both give less coverage compared to application by fingers.

I think it depends on the brand... i have used brush, sponge and my fingers. Which ever gives you the most natural result.

Sponge. I love it because i can get into the crease of my nose and can soak it up if i put too much on my face.
