At 7 months, 2.5 pounds is a normal weight, so I'm not sure what the concern is -- is your wife at risk for a premature delivery? Have they done any tests that suggest the baby has problems? Here's information on fetal development:

I have worked in hospital with a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with many premature and low birth-weight babies. The biggest issue is usually lung development and preventing infections. Still, the younger and smaller a baby is at birth, the greater the chances for medical and developmental difficulties.
However, it is amazing how many babies are saved and actually grow up to live healthy lives. Where I used to work, there were babies that survived birth as young as 22 weeks (less than six months)! There were also many babies who were healthy enough to go home at just 4 pounds.
Your other question described your wife as scared and wanting you by her side, so I'm guessing that there have been some complications. Keep praying, follow your doctor's recommendations, and do whatever you can to help reassure her that she has your support, even when you can't be there because of work. If she is worried, the stress is not good for her or the baby, so you want her to be as relaxed as possible. Is there someone else (like her mother, sister, or best friend) that can spend time with her while you're at work? If there are significant complications, you might ask your insurance if she might be eligible for a home health aide.
I wish you, your wife and the baby all the best!

You left out a few details. Like how far along she is, and what are the complications. There are a lot of babies that have been born premature and they are perfectly normal. A friend of mine had her daughter when she was only 6 month pregnant, the baby only weighed 2 pounds, but now she is a normal, healthy 5 year old. There is hope for preemie babies. It takes a lot of prayer and a lot of faith. Try to encourage your wife that everything will be okay. Also realize that your wife may be feeling guilty or bad for whatever reason, so make sure you bare the burden with her, and not leave it to her to take care of completely. I'm sure your baby girl will be perfect.....

My sister's sister-in-law had a baby boy that was a little over 3 pounds at birth. There were worries at first but he is now a very intelligent and healthy child. He is now 10 or 11 years old. May God be with you and your wife and I hope everything turns out for the best.

There are concerns and low birth weight brings some complications but this does not mean that your unborn child will not survive it just means that at birth your child may npt be fully developed and my have complications. Be prepared for that.
