I think everone can understand him because when meg was babysitting she told him to shut up. and when ladon(i think thats misspelled)his babysitter could understand him. and other babies can because on different episodes he talks to them. so i think everyone can understand him they just ingnore him.and like the guy said above when he started singing the theme song to the show they looked at him.

i have the first 3 seasons of family guy and on the commentary they talked about this. they said people understand him when the writers feel they need to. but when stewie says something about his world domination or something evil, everybody just ignores him. so i guess the answer is yes and no.

I'd say it was clearly Yes and No. As the one pointed out they said that sometimes they do when it is important. I think the reason you can see this though is sometimes they watch him as he talks and pay attention. Although I liked in last season when he got pissed because they kept talking as he was trying to watch Mr. Belevader.Notice how they all got quiet when he went off on about then talking and then started singing the theme. They all just kinda looked at him like what is wrong with you almost.

I was watching it last night and Stewie threatened his mother. She responded, "Stewie, don't threaten Mommy." So I am going to say yes. I believe they can hear him.

I'm pretty sure they can hear stewie, it seems like they treat him like a baby regardless of what he says.

its hard to tell. stewie is always telling lois he's gonna kill her and she just looks at him and says he needs a nap or something. no one ever seems to pay attention when stewie talks

i think that they have an idea of what he is saying, but don't comprehend the entire message in detail.... like a family is with a real baby, there is some communication but not complete communication

Yeah, I wondered that, but Lois I think knows that he is after her to kill her but she really doesn't care

Also, he sings in some of them, so probably they can hear him

The kids hear him talk, but the parents do not

I have always wondered that, but it seems that whenever he says something, they never directly respond to what he is saying, even if he says something like "unhand me you filthy slut!" to his mom, she will say he is so cute when he talks, and stuff like that.
