yes it will, the air system has a built in safety device the sense,s pressure,,and when you get low on freon,,the pressure is low,,this makes the safety valve not kick in the compressor,,once it is re-charged it should be fine,,if it ran while it was empty on freon,,it would burn the compressor up,i been doing this for 35 yrs,and have done a few i Hope this help you,,another thing,,i wish people who don't know how to answer these question,s correctly,,would stop putting up dumb answer,s all the time,,just to get 2 point,s.,,it,s not always a fuse or a switch.

yes, you have a low pressure cut off switch. If the refrigerant is too low, it'll kick off as a way of protecting the compressor from pumping nothing thru the system and burning it up. If you add refrig. while while the a/c is engaged, you should hear and see the compressor clutch kick back in when you got the refrigerant level back up.

If the refrigerant is completely gone, it may not come on at all. If it is low, the compressor will usually cycle off and on. If low, it senses pressure and starts but pressure drops rapidly and it shuts off. Then pressure builds back up and starts the cycle over again. If refrigerant is gone, it won't start. No pressure to close pressure switch.
Hope this helps.

No, more likely the compressor will run all the time. It's controlled by a thermostat - as long as the cars not cool, the compressor runs.

Oh yes I agree, if the freon is low the compressor will not turn on, If the system is that low, get it sucked down and charged.
Good luck

YES absolutely. I had the same experience, with my current car. I added a can of refrigerant and the compressor THEN kicked in.

Fuse or other problem - should still run with low or no A/C, unless the car's computer has shut it off for that reason (assuming a very new car).
