against it. anyone who (under the law) currently "deserves" the death penaly, should be imprisoned for life. but the prisons need to be reformed - build in the desert, no a/c, no tv, no recreation, no social interaction.

Although it isn't a deterrent (it never has been, if you look at historical records), I still believe we should have it. Bottom line is, if you are a thorn in society's side, then it should be removed. The penal system does not work. Most people who commit crimes will do it again, and if they are murderers or something even more horrendous, then they do not deserve to be allowed to continue to exist. It isn't revenge, it isn't a deterrent, it is simply a logical choice.
Disclaimer: The Death Penalty is definitely a situational decision though, not to be handed out to every person that commits a crime.

Against it. But only because there are too many times when the judicial system winds up getting it wrong and convicted someone who turns out is innocent. I do know it doesn't happen all the time, most convicted are guilty, but not all. And once dead we can't bring them back if it turns out later we found out we were wrong. Better to be imprisoned but alive when that is found out so you can be released.

I am definately for the death penalty. Live by the sword, die by the sword. In other words, If you beat someone to death with a hammer, that's how you should die!

Well, my gut tells me I'm for it. The reason I say this is because IF someone very close to me were murdered, then I want the person responsible to die. That doesn't give the murderer a chance to maybe one day be released. The family of the murdered victim doesn't have to sit in bed at night asking why their loved one is dead and the person who killed them isn't.

Against it. A life in prison without hope is more painful-or it should be.

For it. Capital punishment is a deterrent to crime in the states where they allow it. And, for some, it is due justice.
