My 4 wk old daughter is very fussy. The dr changed her formula to Alimentum because she said she has colic behavior. Well from what I've read about colic, the babies usually cry around the same times every day. My baby has some days were she won't fuss at all and then some days she fusses off and on all day. Like yesterday she cried from 2:30pm until 7pm and then again from 3am until 8am this morning. But some days she will cry from 9-11pm and some days not at all. Does anyone think this is symptomatic of colic or could there be some other issue? I give her mylicon drops and sometimes they work and sometimes not.

Colic is defined as unexplained crying for at least 3 hours a day, 3 days a week for at least 3 weeks. If that describes your daughter, then, yes, she has colic.

Does she cry even when you hold her and nurse her? Then it's *not* colic; it's loneliness. Colic is *always* crying for no obvious reason.

My son was born with Colic. They tried everything first switching formulas etc. nothing worked. Apparently there is no REAL way to tell, other then he screamed pretty much 15 hours a day, (the rest he was sleeping). They told me colic will fade out by 1 year old. My baby will be 1 year old on July 16th. He has REALLY started outgrowing it this passed month. Him and his brother are 11 months apart so it was especially hard on me having a baby 11 months old at the time my colic baby was born. But with some help from family i managed to get through it. I thought i would never get through it. It Is Hard! At times i wanted to run away! :-) It will pass! Hopefully sooner then mine did. I also tried the mylicon drops and has the same outcome as you, sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldn't. Good Luck!

I used goodstart after using alimentum and nutramigen with my colicky one..It's better and cheaper just buy one can and try it..If you get wic they will cover it you just have to get a dr stating that is what the baby must have...If you call nestle goodstart they will send you a sample can...It's worth it...

There is an explanation to Colic: BABY FORMULA!

The baby is crying because his gut is not developed enough to handle formula foods. Gerber and Nestle have brainwashed every mother in the US that formula is better than your own milk!

The ONLY thing you should give a baby is breastmilk. Breastmilk contains essential growth hormones that allows the baby's stomach to develop. Your baby is experiencing stomach pains due to his difficulty digesting. He will cry like this for weeks or months unless you give him breastmilk. It may be too late for you to start producing milk, but if you can, than do that instead.

response to above: I know, there are many reasons a woman can not produce breastmilk. Many of these have to do with the interuption of breast-milk inducing hormones given off by your pituitary gland right after childbirth. If a baby is put to the breast immediately after childbirth, these hormones will be stimulated. But when interuptions occur, or the woman is sick, or the hospital has invasive procedures in place that seperate the mother and child, then she can not breastfeed (certain ilnesses, a fever can prevent breastmilk from developing, etc.)

There is lots of research now that shows how damaging formula foods are for babies. Despite this, many doctors still advocate formula over breastmilk due to their own personal beliefs. I am hoping that this wasn't the case with this new mom.

How about seeing another baby Dr.
Sometimes it's best to have another opinion.
