I DONT NORMALLY WRITE RESPONSES IN ALL CAPS, BUT IM GOING TO ***SHOUT*** THIS:

AMERICANS GET MARRIED BECUASE THEY ARE AFRAID TO DIE ALONE. THEY MARRY WITHOUT DOING THE HOMEWORK IN MOST CASES, AND THATS WHY THIS COUNTRY HAS THE HIGHEST DIVORCE RATIO OF ANY NATION!!

THEY MARRY MOSTLY BECAUSE THEIR LIVES ARE MISSING SOMETHING (ITS USUALLY GOD IN ***MOST*** CASES) AND THEY EXPECT THEIR SPOUSE (WOMENY ARE MOSTLY TO BLAME FOR THIS) TO COMPLETE THEIR LIVES.

AMERICANS ARE UNDER THE FALSE IMPRESSION THAT "ITS ROMANTIC TO MARRY SOMEONE SO THEY CAN `COMPLETE` YOU", BUT THATS WRONG.

IF YOU AREN'T A STRONG ENOUGH PERSON BEFORE YOURE MARRIED, IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE. YOU WILL EXPECT SOMEONE ELSE TO SOLVE YOUR PROBLEMS, AND WHEN THEY DONT (AND THEY WONT/CANT) YOU WILL GET UPSET (MOSTLY WOMEN) AND THEN BLAME THEM FOR YOUR PROBLEMS, AND THEN DIVORCE.

Majority of us marry for the logical reason thats its the next step to take in life. Half of those probably regret it and the other half tolerate it. I guess every person marry for his/her own reasons. A year ago marriage never figured into the plan of my life. I never ever wanted to get married. But god decided to give me a wake up call in the form of my long time friend. He and I are now in a relationship that we hope will end in us getting married. I guess its just something that happens to everyone of us at different stages in our life and for different reasons.

I plan on marrying to make the relationship permanent. Shacking up is just a little too open-ended, and from experience, it's not a good way to decide if this is a person you want to marry. (yes, I'm working toward #2)

That's an extremely loaded question. There is no simple answer - mine is that I needed to tell the world how much I love this man by promising to be only with him... and then some people like that there are some tax breaks etc

To have someone you can share your life with, who has promised to be there for you.

As a species, we don't like to be along. We want to feel connected, like we are a part of something beyond just us. This is also the source of fervor for more religions, nationalism, cultural association, etc.

The ultimate expression of this is that we want to be able to share everything about why we are, emotionally and physically, with someone else. We want that person to promise to always be there, and we want to be able to depend upon that promise.

That was the origin of the covenant that give rise to formal marriage. Before that promise, there was just sex.

Marriage is the ultimate expression of love.
Getting married is a commitment before God and the world that your are devoted to your partner.
It's a sealing of the deal. It's saying 'I love you, and I don't want anyone else. I want to be with you forever.'

Marriage is a ritual, a public enactment and statement of the commitment between the individual and their Beloved. Marriage is standing before one's peers...or at least a few witnesses...and declaring a commitment to love one another no matter what.

Because our society is so full of crap.
Marriage is an attempt to show that trust, love, honesty, faith, and all the ideals that the TV pushes onto us can be experienced by us in a one on one relationship.

Marriage is the ultimate slap in the face of western culture.

I married so that I could become One with my now spouse. I married for companionship, to have someone to share my life with, the ups and downs.

I think most men marry because they get tired of looking for sex.
After that they are immediately changed into wimps.

Women marry because their biological clock is ticking and they want someone to cater to them for life.

And people just get tired of looking and will just settle especially men.
