The sphere of the earth would enlongate into a disk, throwing huge amounts of mass into space. Friction would heat the earth to the melting point, velocities would tend to equalize and the molten earth would return to a much smaller sphere. We'd lose the atmosphere, of course, and a great deal of mass...

Oh... and we'd all be dead, by the way.
